FASTING WITH FAITH
Matthew 17:20-21

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have
faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to
yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.   21 Howbeit
this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
On May 20, 2024, the Mount Pisgah Church family will begin a 21-day fast. We are
steadily moving to our concluding steps before deciding when we will begin building the
Ministry Activities Center. As a result, we need to continue to consult our great God as
we proceed. Fasting and prayer are key to remaining in God’s perfect will.
In the above text, Jesus is responding to His disciples after they were unsuccessful in
casting out a demon that was tormenting a young man. Jesus cast the demon out and
the disciples wanted to know why they were unable to do what He did. He indicated
that they were unsuccessful because of their unbelief as they responded to the situation
before them. Jesus informs them that with the faith as a mustard seed, they could do
some incredible things. He adds that some things will not occur without fasting and
prayer.

Fasting and prayer is not about twisting God’s arm to get Him to do what we want Him
to do. It is about us seeking God’s face so that what we ask Him to do is in alignment
with what He purposes to do. We will fast to ensure that we are in His will and His
timeline for proceeding. We believe all things are possible if we believe. We fast with
faith.

As with previous fasts, members who have medical challenges that prevent them from
fasting are encouraged to give up something that is meaningful to them for the period of
the fast. Everyone is asked to fast as the Holy Spirit directs as follows:
Week 1 – fast the first six hours of the day.
Week 2 – fast the first nine hours of the day.
Week 3 – fast the first 12 hours of the day.
