IT SHALL BE DONE

For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11

Our 2026 theme for the Mount Pisgah Harnett Church family is, It Shall Be Done. It was shared with the congregation during Watch Night service as we ushered in the new year. In the message, I indicated that we can be confident that it shall be done because of God’s preface, which provides context for what God does; God’s proclamation, what God says that will be accomplished; God’s purpose, the reason it will be accomplished; and God’s power, the capability that God has to accomplish whatever He has proclaimed. There are supplemental considerations that go along with this big idea.

God’s Declaration. At a crucial point in the history of His people, God chooses to use Isaiah to encourage His people in a discouraging time. They were in exile, without the comforts of home and longing to return to the land flowing with milk and honey. God chastised them but did not abandon them. He proceeds to give them His guarantee of a change in their situation.

He makes a declaration that indicates what He has said will soon be their experience. God can make declarations, announcements of what will become a reality, even though it does not exist at the time the declaration is made. God promises a renewed relationship with Him along with the blessings that result. It was important to His people to know that there was still hope for them and to give them some assurances about their future.

God’s declaration is undergirded by His position as the Sovereign God in all of creation. God decides how things will go and sets in motion the circumstances to produce His desired outcome. God is almighty and is able to command people and conditions to conform to whatever He says. We can rest in the comfort that God has decreed His blessings to be showered upon His children. If He said it, IT SHALL BE DONE!

God’s Determination. Whenever we engage our minds and attempt to fathom who God is in the full expression of His being, we are left dumbfounded with all that He is. We use terms that are designed to help us appreciate who He is. We talk about the fact that He is holy, gracious, merciful, love, great, good, just, faithful, glorious, immutable, all-knowing, and ever-present. Even with our extensive vocabularies, we still fall short in the full expression of who God is. But with that, we can understand God’s ability to get things done.

God is determined to perform His Word and He blesses us to be the beneficiaries of His gracious acts. God is committed to performing every Word that He has spoken and will move every obstacle that hinders its fulfillment. It does not matter how great the obstacle may be, God addresses each one in His being, the things that make God, God. We have reservations when we look at the magnitude of the effort required, but we forget that our God is the same God who made the heavens and the earth.

When we face challenges in our lives, we learn to turn to God for His help in overcoming the challenges or enduring them. We have the anchor of His Word to steady us in our storms as He continues to work to get us through what we are going through. God is determined in His efforts to ensure that He does what He tells us He will do whenever we rely on His Word. He will not let heaven or earth stand in His way in the performance of His Word. IT SHALL BE DONE!

Our Destination. It should excite us that God gives us glimpses of where He is taking us as we walk with Him. He takes us from “peek” to “peak.” That is important when we are a part of God’s plan that will glorify Him. If we are honest, when we hear what God says to us, either through His Word or His Spirit, there is an inclination for us to assume the lead role in accomplishing what He has told us to do. There is a role that we play that starts with submission and obedience to His directives given to us. We should not minimize our responsibility to do what He says.

On the other hand, it is important for us to understand that God has already determined the outcome and it is our responsibility to walk in the Spirit as He takes care of every detail. Walking in the Spirit allows us to witness God’s incredible power at work and have an appreciation for what God is doing. His declarations and His determination serve as the motivation for getting us to our destination in Him.

God was resolute in what He said in the text. His Word will not return to Him without doing what He said it would do. It brings into existence everything that He has spoken and it is the place that we will enjoy as we watch God do great things on our behalf. That’s why spending time in the Word is important to us. The Apostle Peter said, “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” Peter highlights the fact that God has chosen to bless us with precious promises that point to our destination as we walk with Him. IT SHALL BE DONE!

It is my prayer that 2026 will be a year where you will experience the fullness of God’s commitment to His Word. May the Lord bless you, and keep you in His care.
